WATCH OUT! Temptation is tight around the corner looking for an opportunity to trip you and cause you to fall into the filthy pit of sin. Perhaps it has already tripped you. If it hasn't then be on the look out as it is coming to cause you to struggle. The question is what should we do, and the answer is found in our text today. 2 Peter 2:9 Then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment.
You feel as if you are surrounded by temptation and sin is grasping at you from every nook and cranny then I want you to realize that the Lord knows how to rescue you from temptation. He did this for Lot.
Peter says 2 Peter 2:7-8 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds),
No matter how deep you are into temptation and sin God was able to rescue Lot and He can rescue you if you seek Him.
On the opposite side of this God also knows how to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of Judgment. He shows us this as He did this to the Angels who followed Satan. He did this to the world during the days of Noah. He did this to Sodom and Gomorrah. He can do this to you if you do not follow Him as your Savior. Peter give us these examples as well. 2 Peter 2:4-6 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter.
Peter gives us examples for both cases to remind us we have a God capable of both. Which one He does for us depends on whether we live in the righteousness of Jesus or the unrighteousness of pride brought on by Satan.
The choice is ours. I pray you will choose Jesus' righteousness.
