1 Peter 2:9 NASB95 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

From the beginning, God has desired people to have faith/trust/belief in who He is. He is the Righteous and Holy God.

Adam and Eve were fooled into not trusting Him and His word. They did not follow and from that point, mankind needed a Savior.

But God chose!

He chose you!

Faith is vital!

Genesis 15:6  Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Exodus 19:5-6 ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

God chose Abraham's descendants, and Abram was obedient in faith.

Peter explains in our text that Christians are chosen as well.

"You are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION,"

Abraham's people were chosen to bring forth a Messiah/Christ/Savior, for all the world.

But what are we chosen for?

Peter tells us, "so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."

If you are a Christ follower then you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light!

The God of all creation chose all to be saved. Those who freely choose to receive His gift of Salvation are Chosen again.

They are CHOSEN BY GOD ALMIGHTY. To be a royal priesthood. This priesthood does not speak of the line of Aaron but of the line of Christ in the order of Melchizedek.

They are CHOSEN BY GOD ALMIGHTY. To be a Holy nation. Holy means set apart as pure, not defiled, and as different from the rest. Nation means a group that is set apart as the church, full of both love and obligation. You are chosen to be pure in love and obligation to the Lord!

This ties us to A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, which means we are HIS CHURCH! We are HIS PEOPLE!

Set apart as the church, full of both love and obligation.

You are chosen to be pure in love and obligation to the Lord! Just as He is Holy (pure), full of Love (agape), and obligated Himself in Genesis 3:15 to us. He has kept His love and obligation! What about us?

We might need or want to read that paragraph again while contemplating our existence in this Holy Nation.

But why are we chosen to these WONDERFULLY AMAZING THINGS?

Because the rest of the world needs to hear the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

The sadness of walking in darkness, for them, can be illuminated into Joy if we will fulfill our obligation to the Lord in Love. This is the same way He chose us.

He is the light of Salvation from the darkness of eternal death.

Praise Him!

Proclaim Him!

Prioritize Him!

Pursue Him!

Please Him!

Because He chose, loves, and possesses you!
