I read an article this morning about Christians being arrested for conducting a church service in a home. The Muslim country where they live collected all their Christian literature and Bibles and arrested the small group. I hear regularly of Christians being attacked, prosecuted, persecuted, and even killed for worshipping the Lord. I was told yesterday about a push for a bill in government to stop the worship of the one and only true God. I heard last week about a church in a country considered mostly free that was punishing a church for preaching certain verses in the Bible, which are outlawed in that country.
Persecution happens in many forms, from verbal to severe physical attacks. We often do not even realize it is going on because it has been his from us in the darkness of Satan. However,.it is never hidden from the all-knowing God.
This same God has proclaimed and set a precedent for the handling of those who attack and kill His prophets and His people. 2 Kings 9:7 NASB95 — ‘You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
Notice three things that should encourage the people of God and cause those who attack God's people to shudder.
The vengeance of the Lord is a surety in His timing.
God takes the attacks against His servant seriously
God never forgets His serving children.
While He does not say that you will not suffer attacks, you can rest assured that He will punish those who attack you.
Read the text again: 2 Kings 9:7 NASB95 ‘You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
In His time, He called for a strike against the house of those who had much earlier attacked His servants.
He lists two groups that He will avenge. His servant prophets and all His servants. Both groups are tied to the service of the Lord. This should cause those who come to the Lord for their own comfort to think again about truly joining the army of the Lord. God avenges those who serve Him and are His.
For believers, we say, don't just be attenders of the service of the Lord. Take part in His service.
And for the attackers (persecutors), don't be fooled by the quiet. God's vengeance is coming.
He is God, and He is unchanging. Vengeance then means vengeance now in those who attack His servants.
Be a servant of the Lord and watch Him care for you!
