Psalms 127:4-5 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Put arrows in the hand of a passivist who refuses to kill and they are useless. However, put them in the hand of a warrior and they are a great instrument of war. With them, they can hold off the enemy, keeping them at a distance and keeping their family safe. You see the enemy must come closer to fight with a spear. He must come within arm's length to fight with a sword in these cases the others in the family that you hope to protect are within the enemy's reach but arrows in the hands of a well-trained warrior keeps the enemy at bay so the family is out of reach. The psalmist says so are parents with children of their youth. Children born in one's young adult life are usually taught to obey and to be strong. Therefore they will protect their parents in their last days. I remember doing this for my mom with a company that was seeking to take advantage of her when my dad died. My brother is taking care of her now as she fell and broke her shoulder yesterday. The text says "Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;" this is because he has multiple arrows keeping his enemy from attacking at the end of life. Children will not be weak when the parent's age renders them weak and the enemy comes knocking. Now to the main point of this Psalm and verses. This Psalm starts off with a phrase used twice in verse 1. That phrase is "Unless the Lord". A child without God, attempting to protect their parents from the attack of the real enemy, (Satan and evil) is like an arrow in the hands of a passivist. They will be of no use. When the days dwindle down and Satan desires to attack and remove the joy of salvation from the fleeting days of a parent's life it is the Godly children who can keep him at bay and remind the parent of the love of God. This happens best when the parent has poured Jesus into the child at a young age. This also can only happen when the child is seeking guidance from the Lord. This is why God's word tells the parents in Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
And also tells the children in Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.
You will live long, so as to be a blessing of protection to your parents when Satan attacks them in their last days. Love Bro. Scott
