Matthew 17:17 NASB1995 And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”

People see this scripture and others like it and get upset that Jesus would speak like this to His followers. They don't realize by them getting upset or disgusted they are proving Jesus correct. It is prideful, to think that the very best of all believers doesn't need to be spoken to in such a way. It proves that we are prideful and need to be told so. Jesus says you unbelieving generation. Many say but we believe. Jesus is saying your belief is minimal. If we truly believed with all that we are, then our lives would be completely focused on Jesus. There wouldn't be a single moment that we weren't thinking about how amazingly majestic, He is. I mean, let's stop for just a second and think about the fact that the PERFECT, RIGHTEOUS, and HOLY GOD loves us.

That is right, us!

It is impossible for a perfectly righteous, just, and holy God to love the filth of sin, but with God, all things are possible! Then Jesus calls His followers a perverted generation. This word means to corrupt, to distort, to change into something that we were not created to be. We were created to reflect God's Glory. Do we? Then we are perverted!

How long should He put up with us? Thankfully it is WAY longer than we deserve!

Don't be disappointed that God speaks to us this way. Instead, be thankful! Because, Hebrews 12:6 NASB1995 For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, And He scourges every son whom He receives.”

Thank the Lord that He speaks to us in Truth and discipline!

Love Bro. Scott
