Job 18:4 NASB95 “O you who tear yourself in your anger— For your sake is the earth to be abandoned, Or the rock to be moved from its place?
What would a Godly man do to save his child?
I read an article about a Jewish man during the Holocaust who gave his home and his property to a neighbor so that he could dig a pit in the ground of his neighbor's barn for his family to live in. At the same time, hiding out from the Nazis. He took his wife and children and buried them in this large pit. While in this underground pit, he dug a hole for them to use the bathroom in. He dug a tunnel he could crawl through to get to a root cellar so he could sneak out at night and find food for the family. To keep his family safe, only he left that pit where they lived with worms and frogs for over 19 months. He gave away everything they owned and lived alongside them in this dirt pit underground for all this time in order to save their lives.
What will a Godly man do to save his child?
Just this year, here in our state of TN, a father rushed into a burning house. On four separate occasions, he searched in an effort to find his child. On the fourth occasion, he found and saved his son.
In our text, Bildad asks the question: Is the earth to be abandoned, or the rock to be moved from its place, for your sake? He was speaking to Job, whom God called a blameless and upright man who feared God and turned from evil. Bildad is basically saying Do you think God would move the earth just for you?
I would like to answer Bildad's question. The answer is yes; I do believe God would move the earth for me and/or for Job. I don't think He would do it because we are Righteous or deserving. I believe He would do it because of who He is! I also have an example of proof that God is willing to do anything that is righteous for us. John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
And
Romans 5:6-8 says: For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
So yes, Bildad, I do believe God would abandon the earth for our sake. I also believe He will do it for you. Simply because He is God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. He is also Immanuel (God with us), Jehovah Jireh (the Lord our provider), and Jesus (Jehovah's Salvation).
Do not ever doubt that God will shake all of creation if you will just have faith in His Son and His Gospel. Hebrews 12:25-28 NASB95 — See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe.
He is willing and did an amazing thing for your salvation. What will you do with the measure of faith He has given you?
Lord, I pray that through the power of the gospel, people will see in your word today that you will go to extraordinary measures, even the giving of Your Son and the abandoning of the earth for a righteous eternal relationship with us. May we have faith in your faithfulness. Amen.
Love, Brother Scott
