Mark 13:33-34 NASB95 “Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. “It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
We have been given a position in the Lord's Army. We have a job to do: a post to guard and a recruit to train. Scripture reveals this and warns of the dangers of disobeying our orders.
The ancient city of Sardis was said to be unconquerable, set on a plateau on the side of a tall mountain, with steep cliffs surrounding it except for the steep mountain top behind it. The people felt completely secure. Except the city was conquered twice. The only reason for its downfall was guards who had fallen asleep at their posts. Many people were captured and died due to a guard who wasn't doing his job.
What job has God given you in His army? Is it to stand guard, to feed the troops, to fight the enemy, to train, or to be a recruiter? While serving in the Marine Corps, it was understood that to continue on in promotion in rank, you needed a special duty assignment. These were recruiter, and or drill instructor. In the Lord's Army, this is known as an evangelist and/or a discipleship leader. No matter your job, everyone needs to recruit and train. Then also serve in your MOS, military occupational specialty. If we do not follow our orders, then the enemy has a free route to attack.
Over the past few decades and the last century, we have seen the unconquerable church suffer battle defeats because people have refused their orders or fallen asleep at their post. Thankfully, God, who is omnipotent (all-powerful) and dor dor emunah (forever faithful) revealed in Psalm 119:90a: Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations.
Says in Matthew 16:18: “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
So praise the Lord, even though we have given away some battles due to our lack of faithful service, the war has been decided in God's favor because of His Faithful power!
This, however, does not relieve us of our responsibility. The people wandering around the city lost who have yet to become part of the Church are in danger if we are not obedient soldiers. If we don't keep watch, edify the army, serve in our military occupational specialty, and recruit and train, then they will possibly die without Christ.
Jesus has sent us out with a Truth to Share.
To tell the world that He is there.
That if they want eternal life.
Then they must have faith in Jesus Christ.
He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
We have been sent to Share the Way!
Lord, I pray we will go where we've been sent. We will tell the ones we meet. We will fight the enemy by the power of the Holy Spirit. We will always reveal your Truth: that Life is found in you. That you are the only Way to the Father in heaven today. We will not sleep or turn away, but instead we will constantly Share the Way. Amen.
Love, Brother Scott
