Ruth 2:2 NASB95 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”
Notice what the righteousness of a woman from a foreign country can do, after placing faith in the one true God, Yahweh.
Ruth asked her new mother for permission to go to the field to glean what grain she could find after the harvest workers had finished. This was dangerous work for a woman of Israel let alone a foreigner. It was also considered to be the work of the lowly and poor. For Naomi not to go shows that she must have been in poor health. They both showed faith in God that He would go before Ruth. She said, "After one in whose sight I may find favor.” Ruth had faith that God would give her someone to show her favor. God did just as her faith knew He would. She came to a field and ask if she could glean. The field belonged to a family member of her dead husband. He without her asking provided protection for her. The man's name was Boaz and listen to His words to her. Ruth 2:9 NASB95 “Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Indeed, I have commanded the servants not to touch you. When you are thirsty, go to the water jars and drink from what the servants draw.”
Ruth chose dangerous work over idleness. This is a righteous act filled with faith in God. She chose faith in God over her false god. Listen to what Boaz said to her. Ruth 2:12 NASB95 “May the LORD reward your work, and your wages be full from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge.”
She had chosen Naomi as her mother. The promised land as her home, and Yahweh as her God where she would find refuge. This is faith followed by righteousness. We see that Naomi took her into the family through her faith in God. Naomi said to her, "Go, my daughter.”
By faith and her effort in God to be righteous and obedient, she not only became a child of God, but she was also in the line of the lineage of Jesus. Wow, how amazing what faith in God can do. Plus what a life of seeking God's righteousness can provide not just for you but for so many others!
Have you placed your faith in God and then followed Him in the righteousness of obedience? If so, you will be blessed and used by God. You will live realizing the purpose of life. If you refuse the acts of righteousness in obedience then you will be saved and wander around life trying to figure out what it is all about.
Faith and righteous obedience to Yahweh were the way of a young foreign girl in a new country with a new family. You just read about her some 3500 years later. It is truly amazing what faith and righteous obedience can do.
