Have you ever dealt with someone so intelligent that they speak over your head? I have on several occasions. There have been occasions when I felt like they did this on purpose. Sometimes you feel like they want to show you how much smarter they are than you. The truth is that even these people have areas in which they are ignorant. No man has complete understanding. However, we must realize this ourselves as well.
Omniscience (all-knowing) is an attribute of God and not man.
Job realized this as he neared the end of his suffering. Our scripture says, Job 42:3 NASB95 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ “Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.”
One translation words the beginning of this text this way, (You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’
It is I.)
God has all wisdom and yet we often think we do. God reveals to Job that you have spoken through this time of suffering as if you are telling me how things should be, yet you don't even know why these things have happened. Job was not there when God spoke with Satan. Job did not know the people whose lives his life would affect over thousands of years. Job wasn't there when God created all things. Neither were we.
Job responded to God, "I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know." How many times have we done this? We study a little and think now we are experts.
How many people say they know God but have never read His word? How many people have read it and feel like they can be told nothing more? The truth is that there are some things in scripture that God makes so clear that we must be firm on. Then there are things that we will not fully comprehend until we stand before God. We must be careful not to be like Job and think we understand these completely. We might have a good understanding of some of these things, but we do not have complete knowledge of them. There is nothing wrong with teaching these things, but we must be honest in the fact that God's word is so full, and we are not all-knowing. I have said that I don't know a lot, but I know that one day I will stand before God and know I am wrong on some things.
So we must make sure we are firm in our knowledge and knowledgeable about our lack thereof.
Here is what I know:
Romans 3:23 NASB95 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 NASB95 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8 NASB95 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 NASB95 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 14:6 NASB95 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Romans 10:9-13 NASB95 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”
Romans 8:1 NASB95 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8 NASB95 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
So today I declare to you, not what I think, but what I know 100%.
Not with words to difficult to understand, but because I praise the Lord that I have come to Him as a child, and He has received me.
Love Bro. Scott
