Mark 8:33 NASB95 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”
Peter had just rebuked Jesus for being truthful about what was going to happen. We are seeing this happen more and more to Christians today. We are told that if we don't tolerate, accept, and even celebrate sinful lifestyles then we are in the wrong.
However, Jesus told Peter that this type of behavior made him an adversary of God.
If we preach or reveal the truth that an unsaved sinner is bound for an eternal hell then we are considered unloving.
Jesus reveals in the love that God provides, that truth must be told. The wages of sin is death and by telling someone that every one of us is a sinner and deserving of death we are revealing that sin is dangerous. Then by sharing the truth of salvation being found only in Christ we are offering them a chance to avoid the debt of sin. We in love are giving them an option to avoid what we all deserve.
God is love and no man has ever shown love or been more loving than the God - Man, Jesus.
In His love, He told Peter that by going against God's will, you have become a Satan (adversary of God). By going against what the Word of God has proclaimed, you have become a Satan (adversary of God). By focusing on the sinful fleshly interests of man, you have gone against the holy, righteous, and loving, interests of God. Therefore, you are a Satan (adversary of God), and you must get behind me. I will not promote sin.
Know by the word of God, that when we ignore sin we have become a Satan, (adversary of God). The world is wrong, when we call sin what it is and offer the only payment for its debt we are not being hateful, but in truth we are showing Jesus the Son of God. God is love.
Don't be a Satan, be truthful in love, be a Christ follower.
