Titus 1:2 NASB95 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago,
What a blessing to live each day in the hope of eternal life! Eternal life is living outside of time. It is in eternity—a realm where time does not exist. There is no beginning, no end, no hurry, no behind. I cannot completely explain it, but the past is now, the future is now, and now is now. Unlike in time, you do not come closer to the end because there is no end. If Jesus is your Lord, then you have hope in Christ, for everlasting, never-ending, forever-plus-forever life. Life eternal is not only never-ending; it is also without any consequences, punishments, or wages of sin. There will be no sin and therefore no suffering. Joy will be known in love, obedience, and worship, as we will be in His presence continuously forevermore. Being in His presence is the foundation of Eternal life, as only God is Eternal and only in Him is there life. What amazing hope the Child of God has!
However, this hope is not like the hope that the world understands. Hope in the Lord is assured expectation with excited anticipation! Notice the text says, *which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago." This hope is in the PROMISE of the God, who CANNOT LIE! It is absolutely impossible for the Holy, Righteous, and Just God to lie. Therefore, if He promised, then it WILL happen. God, who has omnipotent power and can create everything from nothing just by His spoken word, says I promise. There is nothing more sure in all creation than a promise by the Creator. His promise is, that all who place faith in His Son, His atoning sacrifice, His death, and His resurrection, will have Him as Lord and Savior with Eternal life.
Then the thought that He promised this "long ages ago" reminds me of His never-changing, everlasting word.
He is eternal. Therefore, His word is eternal. Therefore, His word cannot change for all of eternity. Therefore, His promise is eternally guaranteed. Therefore, we can have eternal life with Jesus our Lord.
For that we will be eternally thankful!
