Psalm 49:15 NASB95 But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me. Selah.

In this Psalm, there is a truth that some have missed.

In verse 7 it says Psalm 49:7 NASB95 No man can by any means redeem his brother Or give to God a ransom for him.

There is only one who can save and that is Jesus. Yet Satan has tricked some to believe they can do something to help their loved one get to heaven. They have been tricked by Satan into believing that you can pray or purchase a dead person into heaven.

This Psalm tells us this is not possible. We are told this in several other places in scripture. Ezekiel 18:20 NASB95 “The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.

Philippians 2:12 NASB95 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;

The word translated as "your" from Greek is a word that refers to ownership. Some translations even say it this way. Work out "your own" salvation.

While salvation is a gift from God it is gifted individually to all who will believe.

Only one had the power to die for sin and that is Jesus.

John 3:16 NASB95 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

This says that whoever believes. Not who knows someone who believes. Not who has a close relative who believes. Not someone who believes they can in their sinfulness pray enough or live good enough to save someone else. It says whoever believes.

It takes a personal belief (faith) in Jesus to receive the gift of God's grace.

Now, some would ask Why does it matter if we let someone think they can get someone into heaven. The answer is that it is continuing a lie that goes against scripture and it causes you to have faith in others. When salvation comes only by Grace through faith in Jesus.

The Psalm says "God" will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me.

James 5:16 NASB95 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

God will work in and through prayer but the individual must confess. They do this in faith and this is what brings the grace of salvation to the individual.

Psalm 49:7 NASB95 No man can by any means redeem his brother Or give to God a ransom for him.

Psalm 49:15 NASB95 But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me. Selah

Rest in this truth and you will receive your own grace from God.

Love Bro. Scott
