Romans 8:10 NASB95 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Mankind spends his mortal life attempting to really live, while existing in the decaying prison of the flesh.

The flesh starts dying at the moment of life. What mankind calls life is actually the process of dying. The only way to truly live is to live in the righteous Spirit of Christ. Everything else is just existing in the prison of death.

Richard Wurmbrand spent two terms in a communist underground prison during WW2. The time in prison totaled 14 years, three of those years were spent in solitary confinement. He was given a new name and forbidden to use his real name. He was then tortured if he attempted to tell anyone who he really was. Therefore, all the records didn't exist. When his family and ambassadors attempted to find out where or how he was, they were told that there was no Richard Wurmbrand listed in prison. He became so sick that he was placed in the "dying room." The dying room, was a room for people that they expected to live no more than a few days. They would remove the dead bodies and bring in more sick ones. Richard, however LIVED in this dying room for two years. He was only able to live in the dying room, by living in the Spirit. In the life-giving power of the Spirit, he lived in this dying room, offering life to many, many people who were dying. He was placed in solitary confinement for three years during which Wurmbrand stated The tortures and brutality continued without interruption. They broke four vertebrae in my back, and many other bones. They carved me in a dozen places. They burned and cut 18 holes in my body. The soles of my feet were beaten until the flesh was torn off, then the next day beaten again to the bone. He later said there were no words to describe that pain. After his release from spending 14 years in this prison of death, doctors who examined him said that the body of this man should have been dead for a few years. It is a miracle he is still alive.

His life in this prison was spent quoting scripture that had been committed to memory. It was spent living in the Spirit of righteousness. Death surrounded him. His body was dying. Yet the spirit in him was alive because of righteousness.
