What are you looking at and what are you listening to?

The other day, I was at a table with 3 other people, one of whom was speaking to me, and the other two were talking to each other. I found myself struggling to hear the words of the one who was speaking to me. I was looking at this person but my hearing was listening to the others. How often is this the case when God is trying to get our attention because He has something for us?

Mark 8:18 NASB95 “HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR? And do you not remember?

I find myself looking at the words in my Bible but seeing something I did the other day. I am reading the words but none are being retained. I listen to a preacher but I hear the people behind me whispering.

The problem is not that God is not involved in our lives, showing us evidence of His will for us. It is not that He isn't speaking to us through His word, His under-shepherd, and His Spirit. It is not that there are no examples of things in the past that He has done for us to draw from. Instead, the problem is that we do not see with our spiritual eyes, hear with our spiritual ears, and remember with our spirit. Instead, we see, hear, and remember in our flesh.

Although we live in our flesh, we are spiritual beings, and what we choose to give control to is the one that reveals what we see, hear, and remember.

We must take some quiet time when God convicts and spend it with Jesus, asking Him to strengthen us in the Spirit. With our sincere faith, He will grant our request and then, like the disciples, we will see, hear, and remember as the Spirit makes clear our vision, hearing, and memory.

After reading to this point, have you seen, heard, and remembered the words that God has placed here today? If not, stop now and pray in Jesus' name that your vision would be spiritually clear, that your hearing would be Godly attentive, and your remembrance would be filled with Jesus' work. Then reread and thank God for allowing you to see, hear, and remember Him!
