Whether it is quiet or loud, in a large group or all alone, at work or at home, having a disagreement or in complete unity, peace is available right where you are.
How can I be at peace in a loud place? How can I be at peace in a large group? How can I be at peace at work? How can I be at peace when I am in a disagreement with someone?
Scripture says, in Colossians 3:15-16 NASB95 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
It has been shown that slow breathing lowers your heart rate. In essence, it calms your body and puts you in a state of rest.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body.
Many years ago I was having a panic attack. I was very close to a nervous breakdown. I opened my Bible and began to read; within a few minutes I was at peace. I closed God's word, and a little later in the day it began again. Once again I started to pray, and I settled down. This happened several times until I finally realized that I needed help. I could not have peace without being in the presence of Christ. When I keep my mind on Christ and let Him rule in my soul, even when panic still begins to settle in today. I can find peace when I listen to Christ, and He reminds me I am joined together with the body of Christ as part of the family of God. I am so thankful that in Christ I can rest and relax in His peace even in the middle of the panic of this world.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart.
Then the text says. "Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another.
I only know and understand this peace because of His word, which dwells in me because I read and study it regularly. With this I am given wisdom in Christ to teach and admonish. However, we must read that next phrase carefully. It says "one another." That means that not only does Christ give me the wisdom to teach and admonish, but he also gives others who are at peace in Christ the wisdom to teach and admonish me.
Then the text tells us to do this, "with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God."
We are to teach and admonish in love and thankfulness, by sharing the joy and peace of our lives in Christ.
Which brings us back to the peace we can have in Christ, no matter our situation. That is as long as we are close to Him by having His word richly dwell in us. Because we are called into one body. In that body there is peace!
Colossians 3:15-16 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
