God needs nobody but he loves to make nobody a somebody.
A boy was born to a navy seaman and a young woman who was 1 of 14 kids. A poor family on both sides, this family, although a hard-working family, would be hard-pressed their whole life. The boy born on US Navy base in a foreign land was never anything special. He didn't excel at sports his grades were mediocre at best. He remembers his grandmother asking him do you ever think you will amount to anything. At 15 years old while sitting in a little white church in a little nothing town in Southern IL, God started to convict this young man. He knew he was nothing special, but he couldn't deny the fact that he could tell God wanted him. He surrendered to God as his Savior. Suddenly this boy felt like somebody. Yet in the world he was still a nobody. Within 3 years the young man felt the calling of God to surrender to the gospel ministry. He had every reason to accept the Lord's calling, but instead he listened to the world and denied the Lord. After all, he was a nobody. Plus a friend had just surrendered to preach months before and he thought it will look like I am trying to be like him. He loved the Lord but was sure the Lord was mistaken. This nobody graduated from a little town. He was ranked in the middle of his little class of 32 people. He joined the Marine Corp and he failed at that as he was discharged within a year for medical reasons. Would this young man ever be anybody. You know all his life as a nobody in the world he knew deep down inside he was somebody to God. However, he would convince himself otherwise. While living a life that was very seldom pleasing to God, he could not deny the presence of God in his life. He was blessed with a family that he didn't deserve. He was in a church serving the Lord thinking this will please God. However, God never stopped the call to the gospel ministry. It NEVER went away. Once he finally surrendered to God in obedience at the age of 46 he found a peace and joy in life that he couldn't understand. He now pastors a church and as the Lord speaks to him daily through the Spirit and Scripture, he often thinks to himself, "Isn't it amazing how a nothing, a nobody can be used of the Lord."
With the Lord, everybody is somebody. But in obedience, joy, and peace they are perfectly fine being a nobody. A lot of people would argue this, but as John revealed after telling his eyewitness testimony of things Christ did, I say as well: John 21:24 This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
I have experienced and still experience daily the Mercy, Grace, Love, Holiness, and Righteousness of Jesus. To others and even to myself I am a nobody. But let me tell you, this nobody has been adopted by God Almighty and now I am a child of the King! It is not because of me. Remember I am nobody without Christ. This is one reason why I proclaim the only one who can take nothing and make something. I pray you have found Him and can share your testimony like John and I.
