Titus 2:7 NASB95 — in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,
The second chapter of Titus Paul uses to explain to Titus how he should teach men and women to act. The purpose for this is so the elder people in the church can be examples to the younger.
Years ago, I had a senior adult in the church tell me that she was old enough to say what she wanted and not to care if people liked it or not.
If she wanted the same thing God wanted, that would be a good thing, but this was not the case. Her reason for making this Statement was to say even if I am wrong I don't care.
Unfortunately, this is the attitude many senior adults have taken throughout the years, and because of this, young adults have suffered from that example. Paul tells Titus, Titus 2:2 NASB95 Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.
Then to the Older women Paul says, Titus 2:3-4 NASB95 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
Then Paul gives our text today. Titus 2:7 NASB95 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,
Let's look at these quickly. Good deeds are actions to others that show good, righteous, Holy, and Godly behavior. Selfish, worldly, deviant, and ugly behavior is an example of Satan and not God. Paul says to Titus let them know the young are looking and watching them for examples of who they should and shouldn't be.
Paul then says Act with purity. Purity is a state of being or process of becoming free of inferior elements or ritual uncleanness. Senior Adults should look at the reason for their words and deeds. Are they purely for God, or are there impure elements to them?
Paul says, make sure what you teach, (your doctrine) is scriptural and not personal. I was taught many things as a child and the majority were from a personal doctrine and not a Godly Biblical one.
Last make sure you are dignified. Meaning honest and reverent, being respectful while always true. Never diminish sin but also never diminish the person who has committed the sin.
As I was listening to God in the process of doing this devo, He reminded me I am much closer to the end of my life than I am to the beginning. Therefore, I need to heed the words of this scripture.
If this is you maybe you need to do the same. If it is not, then file it away for the day you are approaching senior adulthood, and remember that you are to be an example of God to the young
Love Bro. Scott
