I remember a conversation with my parents while riding in the car. I was a teen, and I had it all figured out. I was more mature than they were at my age. I could survive on my own. I knew exactly how much money I needed to make. If I were able to do this, I would be fine. Later, I started to get somewhat of an idea of how naive I was.

We tend to realize this as we have major milestones in life. Graduation, moving out on our own, marriage, struggles in marriage, children, and job hunting are all milestones that often help us to realize the wisdom of our parents and the lack of wisdom we have. Of course, there are many other milestones that bring us to this same conclusion.

As our world becomes more advanced, we feel we are becoming wiser, but unfortunately this is not the case. Each year society as a whole takes another step away from God's design. This means we don't realize the wisdom of God, and we start to see ourselves as wise. We have sent a space probe further into space than ever before. It has traveled at roughly 37,000 miles per hour for almost 50 years, and it still will have to travel another approximately 40,000 years before it would reach another star. The heavens are far more vast than man can know. Just as Scripture teaches. Yet mankind acts toward God like a teen toward their parents. We question Him as if we have it figured out and He should listen to us.

Well, God hears us, and He responds to us as He did Job.

Job 38:2-4 NASB95 “Who is this that darkens counsel By words without knowledge? “Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me! “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.

Notice that God is light and yet our counsel darkens. Why? Because we speak words without knowledge. I am pretty sure my Father wanted to try to knock some knowledge into me when we had this conversation. I remember my Mother telling me, You are not as smart as you think you are. God has a similar response. He says, "Gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!"

In modern-day terms, God says, Pull up your big boy pants and man up. Let me question you, as you do me, and let's hear your answers.

Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding."

The answer is, we were only a thought in the knowledge and wisdom of God when He created. He knows every single subatomic particle, that makes up every atom, that makes up every molecule, that makes up every thing, that makes up creation. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and yet, we come to Him and say Let me tell you what you ought to do.

Wow, what pride mankind has.

We say our children will figure it out, and yet we haven't!

Instead of coming to God, attempting to stand in our big boy pants. How about we come in the grace offered through Jesus and humbly say, "Thank you, God, for loving me. What would you like me to do in my praise and worship of you?"

Father knows best. Our Heavenly Father that is!
