Leviticus 27:32 NASB95 ‘For every tenth part of herd or flock, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the LORD.

As the Jews tithed they tithed of their assets. If a man was a shepherd, then he would tithe sheep. If he raised cattle he would tithe cattle. If he was a grain farmer then he gave one tenth of his grain.

The way they did this was to have a narrow gate. As they brought the sheep, cattle, or bundles of grain through the gate they would have a rod dipped in red dye over the gate. They would count each one and when they came to ten they would lower the rod touching that asset and marking it red. Every item marked red was designated to the Lord as a tithe.

They took tithing seriously. Everything with a red mark belongs to God.

The Lord says in Ezekiel 20:37 NASB95 “I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.

Jesus is the New Covenant. If you have been washed by the blood of Christ then you are sealed with the crimson red mark of Christ and belong to God.

You are considered Holy to the Lord.

Having been redeemed by Christ and set apart with the Lord Jesus as Holy.

Read and contemplate our verse in context with this in mind.

Leviticus 27:30-33 NASB95 ‘Thus all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S; it is holy to the LORD. ‘If, therefore, a man wishes to redeem part of his tithe, he shall add to it one-fifth of it. ‘For every tenth part of the herd or flock, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the LORD. ‘He is not to be concerned whether it is good or bad, nor shall he exchange it; or if he does exchange it, then both it and its substitute shall become holy. It shall not be redeemed.’”

Picture this. A man tithes, passes under the rod, and marks with red, his seed for the Lord. Now he needs the seed that has been tithed to the Lord and is Holy, so as to plant His field. So he redeems it by paying the value plus one-fifth, (20%) more. Both are holy, what He tithed and what He redeemed which was of more value. Therefore the seed produces an abundance of fruit.

Jesus is worth more than us but God used Him to redeem us. He remains Holy and in turn, makes us Holy. Both become Holy. Since He has redeemed us and we are holy, the fruit we produce should be in abundance.

As Jesus shows us in His parable of the sower.

Mark 4:20 NASB95 “And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”

When we tithe to God it shows faith that He will pour out to overflowing His Blessings of Holiness on us.

Malachi 3:10 NASB95 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.

The rod dipped in the blood of Jesus doesn't just mark every tenth one but increases it exponentially.

Everything in scripture points to Jesus and His redemption through the cleansing of His blood as He died on the cross, was buried for three days, and rose again to life. Even tithing.

So read and follow scripture as it all points to Jesus.

If we do then we will be amazed at His Harvest!
