Esther 10:3 NASB95 For Mordecai the Jew was second only to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews and in favor with his many kinsmen, one who sought the good of his people and one who spoke for the welfare of his whole nation.

When the story of Esther begins Mordecai was just an average person living in the capital city. There appeared to be nothing special about him. That is except for the fact that he was a caring person. He took care of the daughter of his uncle after her parents' death and raised her as his own. He sought out good for her.

When Esther was chosen, along with many other girls, to go into the palace to be part of the king's harem, Mordecai still showed great care for her, as he would check on her regularly and provide guidance to her.

He also showed great care for the king as he foiled a plan to assassinate him. He also showed great care for his people as he worked to protect and encourage them. The greatest way he did this was to remain true in his life to God. He was not willing to do anything that did not show his respect for the Lord. Even if it appeared to cause trouble for those he cared about. He understood, that the greatest form of caring he could provide to all was to show faithfulness to God.

As we see in our text in the end he was blessed because of his unwavering faith in God which even in the face of death was still the greatest act of caring.

We need to learn a lesson from Moredcai. The greatest way we can care for anyone and everyone is to remain 100% faithful to God in 100% obedient service. Striving for this even when it looks like the continuance of our obedience and faithfulness might bring harm in the near future. Moredcai, saw that he as a regular person in his obedience to God was putting the whole nation of Jews in danger. Yet. he trusted God more than what he perceived. In doing so the Jews were allowed to kill their enemies and Mordecai was recognized. He wasn't seeking his recognition. He only sought the recognition of God.

The most caring way we can live, is to be absolutely faithful to God even when our perception is that we are causing harm.

In the end, we will see that faithfulness never fails.

Do you care for people? If you do then understand that true caring is not necessarily pampering or making them continually happy, but instead it is continually showing them that faithfulness and obedience to God is the way that provides security for eternity.

We should, as followers of Christ, be caring. Not caring in the way of the world but caring in the way of Mordecai. After all Mordecai showed caring in the way of Jesus!
