Psalm 14:5 NASB95 There they are in great dread, For God is with the righteous generation.
I look around and I see people all over in great dread. There are those going around in protest and those living in war-torn countries. There are people in great dread seeking where they will get their next meal, and people struggling in relationships that are falling apart. People are dreading going to their work, and others are in great dread over going home. Why is there so much dread in the world? It is answered in this text. They are in dread because God is not with them in the situation they are in. God will not be a part of sin.
However, there are those who are thriving in sin and think they have no dread.
Those who are thriving in sin, are living completely in the temporary comfort of the flesh. That flesh will one day decay and with it their temporary comfort. Then the dread of their sin and the absence of God will overcome them.
Some people love to point out that many in the church feel dread. They are correct in this. It is because even followers of Christ are in the flesh for now. The flesh fights to cause them to focus on the present or short-term future. With that focus they find dread in their flesh. This is a sin because it is not focusing on God and His presence. Listen to what the scripture says at the end. "For God is with the righteous generation." If God is with the church, and He is, then with a focus on Him the dread will disappear.
I will give two examples of this in my life.
Before my daughter was born they told me she would not survive. The doctors were adamant about this. To the point, that they pushed for abortion. Without God, this was a major contributor to dread. However, when I focused on God I was filled with joy that I would get to spend time with her. No matter how long or how short, I would get to see my baby girl and God had her. The dread left because, in the presence of God, I waited anxiously to see my beautiful daughter with joy. By the way, she is 28 now and she and her husband have given us a granddaughter.
Example two. The marriage, which I was trying my best to save, had ended. She wanted no part in it. I had this dread that I would be alone forever. Then I turned back to God and realized that all I needed in life was Him. I will never forget the joy of knowing that He was with me. The dread left, and in the Joy of His presence, He said to me. Now that you are joyous in me watch how I bless you. A couple of years later He opened my eyes to the most amazing help mate I could not have even imagined. We just celebrated our twenty first wedding anniversary.
Dread WILL be a result of sin!!! Even if it is not immediate , God's word tells us it will be great.
However, God is with the righteous generation. There is no dread when you focus on what God has in-store for the righteous generation.
