Acts 19:32 NASB95 So then, some were shouting one thing and some another, for the assembly was in confusion and the majority did not know for what reason they had come together.
Why is it important that the church be present and in one accord? Because when it is not, there is confusion. No longer is God the subject of worship but instead the opinion of man (often lost man) becomes the object of recognition. When this happens there are some who feel like this is important and others feel like that is important and a third and a fourth jump in with their thoughts. Because after all pride says I am most important. In all this confusion, which is not of God, He is forgotten as the purpose of the fellowship of worship. Then the unthinkable happens. The majority of the crowd is lost in the confusion. Because so many people are arguing for their god (little g) the true God is not being proclaimed, clearly, with authority, and in unity because many in Christ are not at church. As our text says, "the assembly was in confusion and the majority did not know for what reason they had come together."
This then becomes the eventual death of that local body of believers (church)! That is unless the church repents and turns its focus and time on the true subject of worship, which is Jesus Lord and Savior! I know of a church that had begun to become a meeting place of confusion. God was no longer their worship focus. The church split. Within about 10 years the church closed. When they put the building up for sale several people became angry because "their church" was closed and for sale. They began to make calls and complain. This is "my church" where will I go now to worship the Lord?
It is too bad they weren't as focused on worshipping the Lord when the church was alive. They instead, allowed confusion to destroy the local body of believers. This is common, we won't use God's gift while it is available but when it is gone we get upset with God that it isn't there.
If you only drive your car once a year, then you understand that the battery might be dead when you decide to drive it.
If you only weed your garden once a year then you are not surprised when it doesn't produce.
If you only shower once a year then you expect to stink.
If you only feed your dog once a year you can understand when it dies.
However, when you only go to church once a year, you are surprised that it doesn't seem to have power or produce the fruit as it used to. You are surprised when the service stinks and the church seems to be dead, and you complain about it.
Maybe if you had been there regularly, focused on Jesus, the corrosive chaotic confusion could have been avoided. Maybe the church would be healthy and clean washed in the blood.
But when you are not there worshipping then we know what happens.
So then, some were shouting one thing and some another, for the assembly was in confusion and the majority did not know for what reason they had come together.
I miss my church!
I am there every Sunday morning and night.
I am there on Wednesday night as well.
I wonder why I miss it?
Maybe it is because the church is not all there!
How long before it dies is up to the Church and where their worship is focused!
Love Bro. Scott
