There was a knock at the door. When he opened it there stood a sheriff's officer with a black and white picture of a young man just 23 years old. The 79 year old man who answered the door was asked have you ever seen this man? His response was simply I haven't seen him in a long time. The officer then asked is this you. With that justice came to a man who had been hiding in plain sight for 56 years. Many people have the mindset they will never be caught. God makes it clear that while He is patient forgiving and very slow to anger justice will be no means be forgotten. Our text says Nahum 1:3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. In whirlwind and storm is His way, And clouds are the dust beneath His feet.
This is why Jesus WILLINGLY went to the cross. He took our punishment so God would continue to be righteous and sin would receive its wages of judgment. God does not jump at the opportunity to judge even though He hates our sin. This is because He loves us. In His great power and ability to punish sin, He is patient and slow to anger not willing that any should perish. Yet just like the man in the story above time does run out. Punishment/Judgment/Justice is coming, "The Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. His justice comes like a storm you cannot hide from and yet, if we will accept the atoning sacrifice of Jesus then justice is served and we are forgiven. He waits in heaven for us. I hear the clock tick tick tick. Time is running down. How long will you run and hide when forgiveness is available. There will be a knock at the door will the Lord hold up a picture of you as justice has arrived and He says guilty, or will it be a picture of Jesus as He says justice has been paid?
Stop running, then bow down to the Lord and receive forgiveness today. Answer the knock of forgiveness now because the knock of justice will be no means not come.
