Do you have an Idol?
2 Chronicles 31:10 NASB95 Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok said to him, “Since the contributions began to be brought into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat with plenty left over, for the LORD has blessed His people, and this great quantity is left over.”
How can we know if we have idols?
Sometimes, it is difficult to realize that you are putting things before the Lord. I do not doubt that there are people today who would examine their life and say that the Lord is the most important thing to them; therefore, I have no idols. The question I would then have to ask them is, Do you tithe 10% off the top, before anything else comes out? Next, I would then need to ask, Is corporate worship vitally important to you?
When Hezekiah became King, he noticed that the temple was in need of repairs and that the people seemed not to care.
You see King Hezekiah saw that people were not gathering for worship in the temple. So he addressed it. In 2 Chronicles 29:15 NASB95 They assembled their brothers, consecrated themselves, and went in to cleanse the house of the LORD, according to the commandment of the king by the words of the LORD.
Yet, he understood by the Lord that the people would not be fully dedicated until the idols were removed. All the things that drew the people's attention from the Lord had to go! So he ordered it to happen in 2 Chronicles 31:1 NASB95. Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah, broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the Asherim and pulled down the high places and the altars throughout all Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the sons of Israel returned to their cities, each to his possession.
Once the idols were gone the people started to give accordingly. They started to be obedient to God. What came to be because of this was an abundance of blessings. As our text says, 2 Chronicles 31:10 NASB95 Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok said to him, “Since the contributions began to be brought into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat with plenty left over, for the LORD has blessed His people, and this great quantity is left over.”
Is the house of the Lord, which you worship in regularly, abundantly blessed?
Maybe you say I don't worship regularly. Maybe you ask, is twice a month regular? The answer is no. However, the answer can also be found by looking to see if the house of God is abundantly blessed. If the answer is no and you answered no above, then you have an idol. This idol takes up your time. Look to see what you spend time doing that keeps you from corporate worship and this could very well be your idol.
Then, the question is, do you hold back from giving back to God? We are to give back to Him 10% off the top of all that He gives you?
If you do not then you have an idol. You might say, I do not have the money to do this. If this is your thought process then your idol very well could be your money. If you say I use that money for something important. Then the something important is your idol.
Israel, had been struggling. However, when the idols were destroyed and removed the blessings begin to pile up at the house of the Lord.
Let's remove our idols and watch God bless His house and His people!
Love Bro. Scott
