Where are the Levites?
Ezra 8:15 NASB95 Now I assembled them at the river that runs to Ahava, where we camped for three days; and when I observed the people and the priests, I did not find any Levites there.
The Levites had been set aside to serve in the temple. They had many jobs to ensure everything was running smoothly.
The Levites were the servants.
Under the New Covenant of Grace Jesus declared that all are to serve. He gives the great commission to all. Go therefore
Yet here we are today in many churches, saying, 'Where are the Levites or servants?'
Truth be told many churches today are not just saying where are the servants. They are also saying where are the worshippers.
So few are willing to worship and even fewer are willing to serve. Many churches with 200 on their role have 50 attending. I look at Ezra who is attempting to bring the worship back and he looks and says how can I ask more to come and join us when I have no one willing to serve.
So what does he do? He sends people out to the ones who are supposed to be serving. they are asked to come, and praise the Lord they come and bring others with them.
Today is just one of many efforts where I am sending out to you. I am asking you to come and serve!
This brings us to the questions for you.
1. Do you have Jesus as Lord and Savior?
2. Are you worshipping Him in His house regularly?
3. Are you willing to answer the call of God to serve in His house?
If you answer no to question one then let me share with you that without Him you will spend eternity in Hell. Because everyone has sinned and scripture teaches, Romans 6:23 NASB95 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
However, with Him as Lord and Savior you can have the free gift of eternal life in His presence. It is a matter of faith. Ephesians 2:8 NASB95 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
Scripture tells us God has given to each a measure of faith. Romans 12:3 NASB95 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
It is as simple as placing that faith in Christ as Lord. Romans 10:9 NASB95 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
So hopefully that is settled but if you have any questions or are not sure I would love to help you by leading you through scripture. You can call me at 731.435.9341
Now if you are good with question one but are a no for question two, then let me share with you the need to worship regularly. Scripture shows us that the early church felt the need to gather for worship DAILY! Acts 2:41-42 NASB95 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. They were CONTINUALLY devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:46 NASB95 DAY BY DAY continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart. (Emphasis mine)
Then we are given a warning not to forsake the church's gathering. Hebrews 10:24-25 NASB95 — and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
So we truly need to be together regularly, worshipping!
That brings us to question 3. Your Lord and Savior gave His all to serve you out of love. John 15:13 NASB95 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
He did this in service to you. Matthew 20:28 NASB95 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Since He is our Lord and Savior we know He is our example. His first command to His disciples, (which you are now one) is "Follow Me." Matthew 4:19 NASB95 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Jesus was a servant and we are commanded to follow Him then we need to serve. Peter even tells us this. 1 Peter 4:10 NASB95 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
So now that we have been able to answer yes to all the questions. We should have a full house tomorrow and I should be swamped with people saying I have been saved when can I be baptised. People asking where they can sit because the building is full. Then people asking how can I serve.
Let me go ahead and answer these today. We can baptise you now if Jesus is your Lord and Savior. You can sit in the choir loft, in the aisles, or in the foyer, we will get you chairs. You can serve by telling people about Jesus inviting them to church setting up chairs for them to sit in and in many other ways.
I love you in Christ. I am excited to worship Christ with you tomorrow and I look forward to serving with you so we can hear the Lord tell many more through our service, "Well done good and faithful servant!"
Love Bro. Scott
