In the 122nd Psalm, David writes a Psalm of Prophecy. It speaks of the Israelites coming back to Jerusalem and the house of the Lord after 70 years of absence.

Psalm 122:1-2 NASB95 A Song of Ascents, of David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” Our feet are standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem,

Cyrus made the decree to rebuild the temple and allowed the Jews to go home. Most had never physically been there, but their soul longed to be in the presence of the Lord. As they would come off the Mount of Olives and descend into the Kidron Valley, they would sing of ascending up the temple mount, saying, "Let us go to the house of the LORD.” With joy, they would stand inside the gate of Jerusalem.

The name Jerusalem speaks of why they would have Joy. It refers to a Holy city of Peace. A place where God is will be Holy. A place where God is will have Peace. Unfortunately, because of the separation of sin, Jerusalem seldom feels Holy or peaceful.

However, as scripture tells us in Revelation 21:1-2 NASB95 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

There will be a day when we who have Jesus as our Lord and Savior will again be able to sing " I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the LORD.” Our feet are standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem." We will once again ascend into the Holy City of Peace as we are in the presence of the Lord.

David's prophecy of Israel's return happened. His prophecy of the return of the faithful followers of Christ, known as the Church will also happen. Until then, let us join together as the Bride of Christ and sing of the day.

Psalm 122:1-2 NASB95 A Song of Ascents, of David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” Our feet are standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem,

Love Bro. Scott
