Job was known as a man who loved God. As many people study the book of Job, they see its main subject. They see that Job is blameless, upright, fearing God, and turning away from evil. They see he remains faithful to God even through the tribulations sent by Satan. However, they often miss what Job's love for God looked like before the tribulation.

Job's love for God manifested itself in a love and desire for the righteousness of his children as they live and love God also. Look at our text today. Job 1:5 NASB95 When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually.

Job's children loved to celebrate each other. By all accounts, they were caring children. Yet Job's love for God, manifested in his love for his children, gave him a desire to ensure their righteous living. So after they had celebrated each other on their day(perhaps their birthday) and all was complete, Job would then send for them, so he could consecrate (dedicate, or purify) them. Once they arrived, he would get up early in the morning and prepare and offer a burnt offering to Yahweh God for EACH ONE of them. He wanted to do everything in his power to make sure they were good with God.

Notice that Job didn't think they were evil children, but he thought perhaps the have fail and sinned against God. He thought perhaps they had inadvertently sinned against God. He thought maybe in their celebration they had cursed God or taken His name in vain.

Job loved them so much that He was concerned that they might have just forgotten to glorify His God whom He loved even more.

Job did this continually, and this is an example of how when we love God, our love overflows to others.

Now, let's bring it home to our personal lives. Do we have this type of dedication in love for our children? Do we continually pray to our Lord for them, just in case they have strayed, mistakenly sinned, or looked upon God in an empty or vain way? Do we, while they are under our control, do everything in our ability to raise them up in the instructions and dedication to the Lord? Do we correct them in love while instilling a knowledge of Jesus? Do we illustrate through our lives how to completely surrender ourselves to Jesus as Lord?

There are many lessons in the book of Job, but make sure you don't miss the lesson on the importance of loving your children, not in your own love but instead through the love that flows out of your love for your Lord and Savior Jesus.
