An object of worship. A handmade false deity. An object of high devotion. An item that has been given the place of God with either time, devotion, finances, or worship. These are definitions of an idol.

Many years ago I was traveling back from a out of town trade show. I greatly desired to be home in time for corporate worship with my local church. It was a Wednesday night, and according to my figures and GPS, there was no way I would make it. I prayed, Lord, if you want me to be there, you can make it happen. Lord, you know my desire to worship you with my brothers and sisters in Christ, so I will leave it in your hands. When I got into Nashville, everything still showed that I would arrive about an hour too late. When I got to exit 143 on the interstate, which is one hour from the church It was time for church to start. I kept praying in faith, God, you can still get me there if it is your will. I arrived at church 35 minutes later. I walked in to sing the last song before the preaching started. God had answered my faithful prayer. I remember and have told this quite often. Each time, however, Satan attempts to whisper into my ear. It was the truck you were driving that got you there in time, or he says it was your heavy foot that got you there in time. Let me make it clear: neither that truck nor my foot made up any time from Sevierville to Lexington, but from Lexington to the church, God was faithful to get me there in time for corporate worship.

Satan would love for me to tell that story bragging on Idols like a truck or great driving skills. However, the truth is that God is the one who got me there. It was not some man-made idol or some created man.

Jeremiah 14:22 NASB95 Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not You, O LORD our God? Therefore we hope in You, For You are the one who has done all these things.

In Jeremiah's time, people were seeking idols to bring rain. Jeremiah said Is it not You, O LORD our God? This was a rhetorical question. Jeremiah knew the answer as he stated Therefore we hope in You, For You are the one who has done all these things.

They had false prophets telling them lies, just like Satan attempted to do to me, but God had revealed himself. He still does today.

I know God answered my prayers that day for two reasons. First, it was His will, and second, because I never thought or had any impression that I nor the truck could get us there on time. It was a true faith in the Lord that He poured His grace through.

Faith in God is rewarded by a strengthening of faith.

I pray you read this Devotional and see your faith strengthen so you can see God do amazing things and use that to strengthen others' faith in God.

Idols can't do that, for they are empty of God's power.

Love Bro. Scott
