Acts 19:18 NASB95 Many also of those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices.
When was the last time you examined your life for sin? I mean an honest look at your life to see what in your life God would look at and say you are doing WRONG! When is the last time after evaluation of your life that you confessed your sins before God and your church seeking assistance to live righteously? I heard about a baseball player who had a problem with getting drunk and gambling. His teammates started to hold him accountable and he started to examine himself regularly and confess his sins to God and his teammates. He was doing better but then he was traded to another team. His teammates all got together to help him get a house in his new town. After a year without accountability, he had gone back to his old ways. He was drinking and had gambled away the house his teammates had purchased for him. This is happening in our churches today. We do not hold others accountable. We do not evaluate our lives so we can confess our sins to God and each other. Therefore we continue in our sin. Then, if we feel as if our sin is known, rather than rely on our Brothers and Sisters to hold us accountable, love, encourage, and admonish us, we look for other places to hide in a different town, job, or church. We have got to become the Church, the Bride of Christ again. We have to start evaluating ourselves and holding each other accountable. We can only do this if we are willing to open up and confess to God and our Brothers and Sisters our sins.
We do not become sinless when we are saved. What we become is part of a family who sacrifices ourselves to help others come and grow in Christ.
Luke says when Paul came and saw several saved they started to come confessing and disclosing their practices.
You can't confess if you don't evaluate. You can't grow if you don't come together as the church relying on each other to help you rid yourselves of these sins (practices)
The next verse says, Acts 19:19 NASB95 And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
What do you need to bring before your church in confession and burn on the altar of Christ?
Without the church being bold sin goes on hidden under the rug of tolerance. Until it is buried under the new house of acceptance. Which is built where the church used to be. The church where nobody confessed or was held accountable and boldness was traded in for blind eyes and tickled ears.
It is time to evaluate and confess to God and our church so they can hold us accountable, love, encourage, and admonish us. I know this is bold but so is bringing your sins to the altar to burn them in front of everyone.
Let's be bold! Yes it cost but it also sets us free!
