Luke 4:3-4 NASB95 And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.’”

Jesus had spent 40 days in the wilderness and according to scripture He was full and led by the Spirit during this time. During these 40 days, He ate nothing. So at the end of the 40 days, Satan comes, and our text says, the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

Sunday in the sermon we looked at how the bread represents the physical body, fulfilling the physical needs. Satan is known for attempting to offer physical satisfaction. Jesus was physically hungry and Satan offered physical satisfaction. We need to remember this. The physical is also temporal. The bread would only satisfy for a time. However, Jesus responds, "MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.” physical satisfaction Is not enough. However, it is all Satan can offer you. When you eat of it you will hunger again. Jesus, on the other hand, offers a spiritual bread. John 6:35 NASB95 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

Jesus was focused on the eternal, spiritual, real, Godly need of man. While Satan was focused on the temporal, physical, superficial, and sinful desire of man.

The differences are significant.

Jesus - - - - - - Satan

Eternal - temporal

Spiritual - physical

Real - superficial

Godly - sinful

Need - desire.

When Satan comes offering, remember to seek that which is of Christ, knowing it is real and will last. All Satan offers is counterfeit.

Love Bro. Scott
