Ruth 4:9 NASB95 Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses today that I have bought from the hand of Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and Mahlon.

At this time, the law was that the closest kinsman had the right to purchase the land and the possessions of his dead family member if there was no son to carry on the family. This includes the wife of the dead family member.

The closest kinsman was very interested in purchasing the land, but when he realized it meant taking his dead kinsman's wife and having offspring to carry on the dead family's name, he refused. His desire was only for himself and his family's growth of wealth. Therefore he refused his right.

The next man in line was Boaz. In our text, he says, you are my witnesses that I have purchased all that belongs to Elimelech and his two dead sons Chilion and Mahlon.

Boaz made sure to mention Ruth in the next verse as she was the purpose of his redemption. He didn't need the land. He was a wealthy man. His goal was to fulfill the law and do this out of love. He purchased the land simply to acquire the bride.

This is a picture of Christ.

Christ purchased the whole world so He could receive those who love Him out of the world. He makes those His church and then His bride.

Boaz purchased the land to get his love.

Christ purchased His creation to get His love, the Church.

Ruth wanted to belong to Boaz. She did everything he told her to do.

Do you want to belong to Christ? Are you willing to obey Him to belong to Him?

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 NASB95 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

Christ gave all to purchase you! Will you come to Him?

Love Bro. Scott
