Our God always keeps His word. In Deuteronomy, He gave His law on how a fact would be proven. Deuteronomy 19:15 A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.
For confirmation of a fact, there needs to be two or three witnesses. Concerning the resurrection of Christ Paul says there were over 500 witnesses. I think that is enough proof. Yet God keeping His word wanted to make sure we had three witnesses to the diety of Christ. We see in 1 John 5: 7-8 that the witnesses are given so there will be no doubt. 1 John 5:7-8 For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
The Spirit testified to the deity of Jesus many times. 1st by the Virgin Birth. Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.
2nd by the descending and landing upon Him at His baptism. Mark 1:10 Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;
There are many others but 3rd and most importantly the Spirit gives witness in the indwelling upon Salvation. Acts 10:44, 47 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.
“Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?”
Next, it says the water is a witness to His deity
1st We have already seen He was born of woman. That is birth through the growing in the birth water in the womb. 2nd we have seen that He was Baptized in water at the beginning of His ministry to do all things righteous. Then 3rd we see in, John 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
Listen to the proof Moses was to give to Israel as a sign he was sent by God found in Exodus 4:8-9 “If they will not believe you or heed the witness of the first sign, they may believe the witness of the last sign. But if they will not believe even these two signs or heed what you say, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground; and the water which you take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.”
The last witness we see in our text is the blood. The Blood's 1st witness was Jesus in the Last Supper when He said in Luke 22:20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.
2nd is the blood poured down the altar of the cross. Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’
3rd is the fact that His blood poured out with water at the piercing of the spear but His life was already gone. Jesus said earlier upon His death. Luke 23:46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.
As John says they all agree that Jesus is the Son of God!!! I am a witness to this, by these three that have saved me. I pray you are as well. Love Bro. Scott
