A few years back I was convicted by God to pray for a friend and then call him. I prayed for him, but I did not call. A week later we talked and he told me how he had struggled the week before.
I knew him to be having a great time in life. It seemed everything was going just right for him. However, he was in great despair and I wasn't there for him.
The beautiful castle on the hill is often occupied by a person caught in despair. He finds himself trapped daily in the dungeons beneath that beautiful castle.
Many people live in a castle that looks beautiful on the outside, but inside, it is filled with empty dungeons of sin and its imposed burdens.
The mildew of these burdens fills the dungeons and often penetrates the upper floors causing them to be overwhelmed with the burdens and dangers of sin.
If only someone would come and clean the stench and mold of the dungeons, then the rooms above could be filled with life.
Galatians 6:2 NASB95 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.
I know a person who was stuck in this suffering. Many Christians came and bore this person's burdens and now the person lives in the castle of joy with Christ.
However, the Christians will tell you they received no burden. For as they worked to clean, God removed the burden from them.
I failed my friend that week when I didn't call. I have made efforts not to let that happen again, however, it has.
Thankfully Christ doesn't fail. The law of Christ is to bear one another's burdens. He bore ours on the cross and in the grave and now we can live. When we take the yoke of Christ we find that in His strength, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
Don't just look at the castle and think the person is fine. Instead, go and clean out their dungeons and watch the Law of Christ bring life.
Paul says "Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ."
