1 Kings 14:6 NASB95 When Ahijah heard the sound of her feet coming in the doorway, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why do you pretend to be another woman? For I am sent to you with a harsh message.
You can not hide from the Lord!
When a man knows he is going against the Lord, he often attempts to hide.
Adam and Eve hid in the garden. However, it did them no good.
The Lord says, Jeremiah 23:24 NASB95 “Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.
When we are in sin, running from or hiding from the Lord might be the common thing to do, but it is not the correct thing. Jeroboam and his wife attempted to hide and disguise themselves from the Lord. This simply isn't possible. There is no reason to hide or to run because, first, it is impossible, and second, the best place we can be when we sin is in the Lord's presence, seeking forgiveness. James tells us in, James 5:16 NASB95 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
John, in his 1st epistle, says, 1 John 1:9 NASB95 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
However, when we attempt to hide from the Lord and do not seek forgiveness, we are increasing our sin and pointing it against the Lord. In doing this there will be punishment.
Numbers 32:23 NASB95 “But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.
Jeroboam and his wife attempted this, and because of their desire not to seek God but hide from Him, our text says that Ahijah pronounced judgment. It says, For I am sent to you with a harsh message.
When we are struggling in sin, don't try to hide but run to the Lord and seek forgiveness.
His Grace is sufficient.
He is faithful and true.
And He desires to receive all men unto Himself.
Don't hide; instead, run!
Run straight to Jesus!
