James 1:18 NASB95 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

On day three of creation God created all the plants of the earth. Genesis 1:11-12, Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.

The orange tree was created mature with oranges. Those oranges were the first fruit of the orange tree. For more orange trees to grow, that fruit would contain seeds that would become an orange tree. The same goes for corn and wheat plants. Each contains seeds of its own kind.

This was God's will, and in the exercise of His will, so has it been since He created it. He knew His design was good.

Similarly, He chose the Jews, who James is writing to in our text, to be the first fruits.

They contain the seed of truth. This is the word of God. In the exercise of His will, He brought them forth by the giving of His true word. So that they could be the first fruits growing more of their kind in the truth and His will.

Nothing has changed today except the dispensation we are in. We now live in the church age. In this time, He exercises His will by teaching and growing us through the truth of His word. Once again, He does this so that we might be the first fruits that contain the seed that would grow new believers in the world.

The seed that is inside of us is His word. It is truth and can be planted by us spreading our fruit of the gospel to all the lost around us. When we do this we are exercising the will of God.

Be used by God in accordance and by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

If we do this we can know we are a good gift from God to the world. James 1:17 NASB95 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Is that us?

It can be if we follow and exercise His will
