Hebrews 7:8 NASB95 In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives on.
The writer of Hebrews is speaking of Melchizedek, for whom there is no record of his birth or death. Abraham gave to him a tenth (tithe) this was included in the Mosaic law, that this tithe be given to the Levites for the worship of God.
The text says "one receives them of whom it is witnessed that he lives on." It is speaking of Melchizedek who was High priest. His name meaning king of righteousness and he was the king of Salem meaning king of peace.
We now have a High Priest in Christ who is witnessed that He lives on. Who is King of Righteousness and King of Peace. Therefore, we are to tithe (give a tenth) to Him.
In the dispensation (period of time) of the promise to Abraham we see evidence of the tithe going to the Lord through a High Priest with no beginning and no end. It was given for the service of worship to the Lord
In the dispensation of the law, we see evidence of the tithe going to the Levites to the High Priest who was constantly being replaced due to death. It was given for service of worship to the Lord.
In the dispensation of Grace, which we are in now, the Church is the model that Jesus set up for worship. This is where your tithe should go. In tithing to the church you are tithing to the High Priest who is King of Righteousness, King of Peace, and He lives on eternally. His name is Jesus. Jehovah Salvation.
The writer confirms that the tithe should always be given to the one who receives it, of whom it is witnessed that he lives on.
May God be worshipped through your tithe in your local church to a living God.
Jesus is The High Priest!
