Romans 8:10 NASB95 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Almost everyone desires to think highly of themselves. This is because they struggle with pride. Pride is the beginning of sin. It is the thought that anything is higher than God. Pride often is placed in yourself. We often desire to be recognized as successful even in our efforts to praise the Lord. However, our efforts are powered by God, therefore the success is also His. Since the success is His the glory is His. Everything we accomplish is done through Him, and He is the only one worthy of recognition. Our text starts with the statement, If Christ is in you. This explains where the glory of the following words should point. The point is made, as it says at the end of the verse, that the spirit is alive because of righteousness. You receive everlasting life because of righteousness, if Christ is in you! The gift of life is given through and because of Christ and no one else. There is no other element needed that you can provide. As Paul says in Ephesians 2:8 NASB95 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

Grace is how we are saved, it is a GIFT of God and God only.

Now, some will say yes, but its mode of transportation from God to us is through our faith; therefore, we have a part in it. Yes we do. We can choose to use the faith that is PROVIDED by GOD or not. Yes, I said faith is provided by God. Paul tells us this in Romans 12:3 NASB95 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

God has given everyone a measure of faith. It also comes from Him. As I said earlier, all elements needed for salvation come from God; therefore, there is no way we should have pride. It is God in Christ through His righteousness that gives us life!

However, Paul explains in our text that the body is dead because of sin. In other words, if we want to give ourselves credit for anything. Then we can give ourselves credit for the death of our body because of our sin. Which, as I said, begins with pride.

Romans 8:10 NASB95 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Give glory to God through the living Spirit inside of you. For it is the grace of God that saves us through the faith of God given to be placed in the Son of God for our salvation because of Christ's righteousness. Otherwise take pride in the death you caused because of your sin.

God provides life.

We provide death.

God provides righteousness.

We provide sin.

God gives Grace, Faith, and Salvation.

We give pride and sin.

It's clear God gets the glory!
