1 Corinthians 10:4 NASB95 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.

Paul talks of Israel's journey through the wilderness, where God gave them manna, both physical bread to satisfy their bodies' hunger, and spiritual, as He fed them the word of God. In our text, he transitions into thirst. He says they all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them. They had their physical thirst quenched when God had Moses strike the rock of Horeb. Water began to flow from the rock and there was no need for thirst because the supply exceeded the need.

I find it interesting that the word Horeb means desert or dry wilderness. This place was known for not having any water. Yet in God, the water was so abundant that wherever they went after this place they had plenty. It was always provided. First, because they carried it with them, and second because He followed them providing their needs.

Our text then says, the rock was Christ.

Christ will never leave us needing. He fills our cup to overflowing and the water He gives quenches thirst forever. Of course, this is speaking spiritually.

Notice this all happened before Christ was born of a virgin. Yet we see He always was. And the spiritual need that they had was filled in the same way ours is. Only Christ is the Way to the Father. Whether it was pre-His carnate life, during it, or after His death and resurrection, He is always the living water that quenched the thirst of both physical and spiritual need.

If you are in need go to the rock that is often first found in the dry places of your life. It is there He will quench your thirst providing salvation. From there the Rock will always be with you. Simply because you carry Him and He follows you.

The Rock in the desert flowing with water and providing life, is Christ!

Drink and be filled for all of eternity.

Love Bro. Scott
