1 Corinthians 14:12 NASB95 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.

Paul is talking to the church at Corinth about spiritual gifts and mainly speaking in tongues. They apparently are seeking gifts for their own glorification. Paul instead urges them to seek to abound for the edification of the church.

The horrible thing is we have a similar problem today. People are still seeking their own glorification rather than to edify, teach, strengthen, and grow their brothers and sisters in Christ. This is one reason why the church is failing in discipleship today. So few people seek to help their church but rather seek to use the church for their benefit. They do not pray, Lord, use me to grow your church. Instead, they pray, help me to grow from the church. A well discipled Christian will realize as they seek to edify the church, they being a member of the local church, will be edified also. Satan has sought to give the church a bad name and many refuse to join simply because of this. They have missed out on the fact that God calls us to grow the church. The church is not just His Bride but His chosen vessel to reach and disciple the lost.

Are you hindering God's bride and chosen vessel because of your desire for you?

Are you always seeking your growth and not seeking the growth of His Church?

God, through Paul, is speaking to us and is saying, 1 Corinthians 14:12 NASB95 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.

Use your gift through the church! This is God's design. If you don't then you are going against God and instead are glorifying yourself.

Edify the local church with the gifts of God.

You can not glorify yourself and God at the same time! You must choose which one you will glorify.
