Titus 2:14 NASB95 — who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
We have lived our lives on credit. Every sin (lawless deed) has a cost. The interest rate is astronomical and at some point, the note will come due. What we thought would cost a dollar has multiplied exponentially, and we cannot afford the debt. Our eternity will be spent in debtor's prison (lake of fire, weeping, and gnashing of teeth, outer darkness, suffering), yet we will never be able to pay in full.
However, if we have faith in Him, Jesus will step in. Titus 2:11 NASB95 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men.
He will step before the judge and show that with His life, He has paid our debt in full. We will not be required to even spend a second in that prison of Hell.
However, on the gift of this salvation, Jesus doesn't leave us in our lives of sin, building up debt we can't afford. He instead, purifies us (cleanses us) to a righteousness that produces good deeds.
Not only do we produce but He causes us to have a zealousness for the production of good deeds.
Titus 2:14 NASB95 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Jesus used His life as a payment for our debt. By God's grace, He has purchased us through our faith. Then we are His, and He cleanses us giving us a zeal to produce good deeds.
Do you desire to do good?
