Luke 23:15 NASB95 “No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.

Jesus was examined by the two highest-ranking officials in Israel at the time. He stood before them on trial and was found innocent.

Herod, was excited to see Jesus because he had heard about all the great signs pointing to God that He had done. The scripture says. Luke 23:8-9 NASB95 Now Herod was very glad when he saw Jesus; for he had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had been hearing about Him and was hoping to see some sign performed by Him. And he questioned Him at some length; but He answered him nothing.

So Herod thoroughly examined Him, (questioned Him at some length), but found no guilt in Him.

Then He was sent back to Pilate. Scripture says that Pilate responded to all the people, Luke 23:14 NASB95 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.

Then Pilate says in our text today, Luke 23:15 NASB95, “No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.

Jesus was innocent! There was no sin in the Man. We see in Scripture that if He were guilty of one sin, then death would have been deserved. Romans 6:23a NASB95 For the wages of sin is death.

Yet He was not guilty according to both of the rulers.

So why did He die? Why did He go to the cross? Because all the rest of us, that is, everyone else who has ever lived, have sinned and deserve to die. Scripture says. Romans 3:23 NASB95 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Jesus was willing to die in our place so that all who believe (have faith) in Him can have eternal life. Romans 6:23b NASB95 The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The evidence is there to show us the truth. Jesus did die. Even secular people of the time agree to this. Jesus did rise. The tomb is empty. Nonbelievers during this time, still had to agree that the tomb was empty. Plus 100's and 100's of people risk death by confessing that they were eyewitnesses to the resurrected Christ. Why would they risk torture and death for a lie?

The truth is clear Jesus was found innocent. As Pilate says, "Behold, nothing deserving death had been done by Him." Yet He was crucified. No one denied it. The Grave is empty, they all agree on this. People risked torture and death but still confessed, even as they were being killed, that they were eyewitnesses to the resurrected Christ, who is the Savior for the world.

The choice is ours will we receive the gift in faith, by believing? Because if we do, the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord! However, if we don't we get what we deserve. That is eternal death in hell separated from God.

I pray today He is your Lord!

Love Bro. Scott
