Merry CHRISTmas!
Celebrated this day is the birth of Christ our Savior. The thoughts of a sweet baby coming to be worshipped by the world. Shepherds came and worshipped Him. However, His purpose for coming was not as much about His worship as it was our salvation by His sacrifice.
When we speak of sacrifice, we often think of the cross, but it actually began much earlier. Zechariah 13:1 NASB95 “In that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for impurity.
Yes, this verse speaks of a fountain being opened. Many think of grace, mercy, and blood offered through the cross, but they were offered through the womb of a virgin girl as well.
Before the cross, there was a God willing to empty Himself. In humility, the God of creation lowered Himself in sacrifice to be placed in a womb. The omnipresent God. The Spirit that is life was placed in a tiny virgin womb, to be woven with flesh and inward parts. Conceived of the Spirit, the Eternal God became the only begotten of the Father. If this process isn't sacrifice, if this isn't an emptying, if this isn't humility, if this isn't sacrifice, then we don't understand what sacrifice is.
On this day, we celebrate the 9-month anniversary of the beginning of sacrifice as the womb burst open. A fountain was opened as the God Man was born. The womb was opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for impurity. Grace and mercy came forth in the form of a baby. Sacrifice had been made as God is with us! Salvation was offered in Jehovah's Salvation. This is the meaning of the name Jesus.
The greatest Sacrifice was definitely made on the cross as life became death for the sin of man. This was done in love. However, as we celebrate the wonderful birth of a Savior, may we not forget that a sacrifice was made in the conception and birth of the only begotten of the Father. The one who has always been the one who created, the one who is God the Son, being God with all power, all knowing, who is everywhere present, who is life, yet was emptied not of deity but of the glory of heaven to be placed in a tiny virgin womb. And there was woven in flesh, to die a man without sin, so that we could live.
That is sacrifice.
That is life.
That is love.
That is humility.
That is Immanuel. (God with us)
That is Jesus. (Jehovah's Salvation)
That is a fountain of grace, mercy, and blood.
That is Christ, the anointed one!
That is CHRISTmas.
Merry CHRISTmas!
