John 14:18-20 NASB1995 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
A child of God is never alone. We have been adopted by the Father that was, is, and always will be. We have a Brother who gave His all so He could be the first among MANY brethren. We have a comforter who came to live in us.
A child of God is never alone. The world can not see our Savior but we who live in Him can see His presence through our life. When we are born again we are born into Christ. We see Him in the change in who we are. We see Him in the work He does through us. We see Him in the pain and guilt of our sins. We see Him in the desire to live righteous. We see Him in our forgiveness of others. We see Him in our love when that love makes no sense. A new creation we are, as the old has passed away in Jesus' death and the new was birthed in His resurrection.
Our text ends with the words "In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you."
I want to focus on the word KNOW.
TDNT defines the Greek word translated know as, This act embraces every organ and mode of knowledge, e.g., by seeing, hearing, investigation, or experience, and of people as well as things. Supremely, however, knowledge implies verification by the eye; hence the dominant concept is that of knowledge by objective observation. This is related to the Greek view of reality. Reality consists of forms and figures or of the elements and principles that shape them. The truly real is timeless reality that is constant in every change.
(Theological Dictionary of the New Testament)
In that day you will KNOW by every organ and mode of knowledge, by seeing, hearing, investigation, or experience, you will KNOW. You will KNOW by objective observation that reality is timeless and constant in every change.
A child of God is never alone! If you are a child of God you will KNOW His presence is with you no matter the changing circumstances of your life.
There is a verse that this word translated KNOW is in twice. Considering the time of year. I wanted to give you this verse and then give it to you again, replacing the translated word with the word KNOW.
Matthew 1:25 NASB95 — but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.
This verse is speaking of Joseph and his actions toward Mary. Now let me put the word KNOW in the text in place of the other translated words.
but KNOW her a virgin KNOW she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.
The knowledge of the Holy Spirit is a powerful thing. Joseph was knowledgeable (certain) under all circumstances that Mary was a virgin, when He KNEW (certain) under all circumstances that she gave birth to the Son of God!
We can KNOW with that same certainty that as a child of God, we are never alone.
It sure is great to know that Jesus will not leave us a orphans.!
