What is love?

2 John 1:6 NASB95 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

Matthew 22:36-40 NASB95 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

If I were to ask 100 random people today to describe love, I would be surprised if there were more than a few people who would include striving to keep God's commandments as love.

We have attempted to remove obedience and replaced it with acceptance.

Acceptance is not love.

YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’

To love the Lord is to walk (live, strive, obey, follow) according to His commandments. He commands us to LOVE Him with all our Heart, Soul, and Mind (all three parts of our being). The Heart represents the very center of our physical being. The Soul represents the Spiritual side of our being. The Mind represents our thoughts and actions. So with all that we are, (physical, spiritual, and actions), we are to love the Lord by walking in His commandments, which the greatest is to love the Lord!

It is a circle that is held together in the center by the Lord.

Love is not acceptance but obedience.

If we love someone, we will show them obedience to God in the hope of seeing them love as well.

When you are asked to define love remember 1 John 4:8 NASB1995 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Romans 5:8 NASB1995 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Philippians 2:8 NASB1995 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

2 John 1:6 NASB95 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

What is love?

Love is walking according to His commandments, with all that you are because He is LOVE.

Love Bro. Scott
