Jesus sent out His disciples in groups of two and He told them to take nothing but a staff. They had a job to do as God gives ALL followers of Jesus a job. There are many jobs but one job all are given. The job each and every one of Christ's followers is given is to proclaim the gospel to the lost world. As Jesus tells them to take nothing He is making the claim that He will make sure they are provided for. However, there is one thing that Jesus explains to them will not be provided. Mark 6:11 NASB1995 Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.”
God will not provide for you a harvest. This is because He has given man free will to receive or reject the Salvation provided through the power of the Gospel.
Even though He will not provide the harvest, He will provide the blessed assurance that your salvation is not contingent upon your harvest quantity. Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet.
You are not responsible for their salvation but you are responsible for the obedience of Going in Faith and Sharing the Gospel in Faith. Jesus is providing in this statement verse, three powerful messages. First, to His followers, you are not responsible for their salvation but for your obedience. Second, to the followers of Christ, although in your caring, you will be frustrated at their faithlessness and lack of desire to follow, God will provide you with the strength to move on. Third, to the refusing, lost, and nonbelieving person, there comes a time when the offering of salvation will leave. Then it will be too late. The state of your eternity will rest on you.
For those, may I suggest that you receive the gift when it is offered? Because when the dust clears the delivery person will be gone!
Praying for obedient, faithful followers, and prepared, accepting, and surrendering people who gladly will take the gift and become "sent followers" themselves!
