How do you start your day? How do you start your week? How do you start your month? How do you start off your year?

Let me tell you how you started off your life. You started off life in the image of God. You started off as a Spiritual being. Your soul is everlasting from the moment of its creation throughout eternity. We are told in Psalm 139:13 NASB95 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.

Your first moment is spent with your creator.

In our text today God lays out for Moses how they should begin their journey to the promise land. Exodus 40:2 NASB1995 “On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

God says you will start the first day of the first month of the year in my presence. God makes it very clear that He desires to be the beginning of everything in our life. He purposely starts life in His image in His presence. Then He gives us free will. So that with guidance from His word and His invisible attributes that are made visible throughout nature, we might choose to start off everything with Him!

Do we do that? I know I don't.

I remember many years ago when I had my last motorcycle, I had a couple of friends (Husband and wife) riding in front of me. I saw them wreck right in front of my eyes. I saw the husband crying telling his wife he was sorry. This had a profound impact on me. I started praying for safety before every ride I took. Then one day, I thought, why do I just pray for safety when I am starting a motorcycle ride? So, I started to say a small silent prayer every time I drove a car. However, this didn't last.

I wonder why, when God makes it so clear that we should start with Him, we don't start with Him? Instead, we/I go to God when we get in the middle of our life and we have made a mess of it. Let me encourage all of us to do what God desires. Start our day, week, month, year, and everything we do with Him. This is how we started life.

So let's get back to how God started us off in the first place, With Him.
