Song of Solomon 1:13-14 NASB1995 My beloved is to me a pouch of myrrh Which lies all night between my breasts. My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms In the vineyards of Engedi.”

The desire of the bride is comparable to the desire the bride of Christ should have for Him.

We know throughout scripture the obedient work of God's children is described as a fragrant aroma to God. Whether it be in attonement or the joy of obedient service, God finds it pleasing to Him. In this text the desire the bride has for the groom is a longing for His fragrant aroma to encompass her all night. It soothes her thoughts and brings joy to her in the form of complete peace.

At this point in the song the bride can only long for the Bridegroom. They have not been able to be together in marriage. Therefore in her longing she dreams in her mind of the glory of her Bridegroom. She imagines My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms In the vineyards of Engedi.” She compares Him to the most beautiful and fragrant sights sounds and smells of her understanding.

All of this she does because as of yet they are not together in person.

The Church, should have this type of longing for God. However, as we look at ourselves we often find our thoughts are not longing for God but longing for the world. We find we are not dreaming for and desiring the day when we will be with Him face to face.

Although this is often where we find ourselves it is comforting to know that God still has a longing to invite us into His presence for eternity. Scripture teaches us the only reason that He waits is His desire for all to come to Him.

I can't even imagine how to describe the time when I will forever be in His presence everlasting. I long for that day to come. Until then I am thankful for the peace and joy of His indwelling. I will continue to walk with The Holy Spirit in a world of thorns and dream of the day I will smell a fragrance even better than henna blossoms and see a sight more magnificent than the vineyards of Engedi.

What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see. And I look upon his face

The one who saved me by his grace

When he takes me by the hand

And leads me through the Promised Land

What a day, glorious day that will be!
