Joel 2:14 NASB1995 Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?
I hear quite often, the end is near.
I would not be surprised if it came today.
I also would not be surprised if it was still 1000 years off. Jesus said no one knows the day nor the hour not even the angels nor the Son. The only one that knows when this will be is the Father. I look at the world and all the signs point to it being near but I look at the scripture and see near for my infinite God is different than near for finite me. 2 Peter 3:8 NASB1995 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
In our text, Joel is speaking of the coming day of the Lord. He is speaking of the end times and we can tell it will be a horrible time for those who struggle through it. Yet the Prophet Joel says Joel 2:14 NASB1995 Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?
He is saying there might still be a sliver of an opportunity for you to be able to please the Lord. It might be so small of a chance it is hard to recognize, but there might be an offering left for you to give to the Lord.
This is why until Jesus says it is over, we need to continue sharing the gospel. It is the power of God unto Salvation. We must keep busy seeking to lead the lost to Christ in hopes that they will accept Christ's gift of salvation.
This time will be so bad no one will go through it with ease. So while we still can, let's share the gospel. Joel continues on in this chapter saying. Joel 2:15-17 NASB1995 Blow a trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and the nursing infants. Let the bridegroom come out of his room And the bride out of her bridal chamber. Let the priests, the Lord’s ministers, Weep between the porch and the altar, And let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not make Your inheritance a reproach, A byword among the nations. Why should they among the peoples say, ‘Where is their God?’ ”
If we believe the time is near we must be even more busy being dedicated to the work of the Lord.
Yet, instead, it is like we sit back and say it is too late!
Well, Joel says Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?
Who knows? Not us! So let's stay busy Sharing the Way!
