1 Timothy 1:3 NASB1995 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,
There is a trend going on in the world of getting our doctrines from men who have been led astray. We find them on the Internet, on the TV, on talk shows and in some cases Study Bibles. We look for insight everywhere but God. I am not saying that these worldly types of things do not have some Godly inspired men on/in them. What I am saying is there is only one who is Godly. I'm not talking about Godly inspired I am saying there is only one who is Godly. There are many good commentaries and study Bible comments but DON'T rely on them to get your doctrine. Many people will get one study Bible, or one commentary, or they will listen to one person on the Internet or TV/radio and take what that person says as scripture. Scripture was finished a little over 1900 years ago it is protected by God. There is no better way to understand scripture than guidance from the one who spoke it into existence. As time winds down the problem that will creep in and corrupt the church will be individuals who turn to the source of their choice. They will choose the source that tickles their ears, and they will attempt to teach it in the church as scripture. There are churches already doing this to tickle the ears of sinners who choose to live in sin rather than to repent of it. Paul said to Timothy, instruct some men not to teach strange doctrines. So today I urge you get your doctrine from scripture. While I think there are some good thought based translation out there (these do not include small group or single person paraphrases). When seeking to study and receive guidance from the Holy Spirit on doctrine use literal word for word translations.
