Amos 9:10 NASB95 “All the sinners of My people will die by the sword, Those who say, ‘The calamity will not overtake or confront us.’

All the sinners of my people.

My people - are believers. Those who are a part of God's kingdom are His people.

All the sinners - of the believers, these have turned away and decided to live in sin they refuse to repent and confess their sin.

Those who say, ‘The calamity will not overtake or confront us.’ - They deny the coming judgment of the earthly consequences of their sin.

God says they will die by the sword.

John Wesley says these great and notorious sinners believe that the evil is far off, and they will die and be safe, not suffering from their sin.

They forget the fallen state of the earth and the punishment it can produce.

Joseph Benson hints that, the sword, refers to a calamity brought on by God

Not only will they suffer here on earth but they are laughing and enjoying driving the nails into the hands and feet of Jesus. They smile in sin at the ripping of His flesh.

Our deserved suffering is bad enough but enjoying Jesus' undeserved suffering is horrible. This is, in essence, what saved sinners are doing when they refuse to repent and choose continually to live in sin.

All are sinners, every single one of us has fallen short of God. However, we must not laugh and live in our sin while our Savior suffered. Instead, we must repent in brokenness and strive for righteousness.

If we don't then we must know.

The calamity will overtake, and it will confront us!’

Amos 9:10 NASB95 “All the sinners of My people will die by the sword, Those who say, ‘The calamity will not overtake or confront us.’

If you are a child of God then don't play with sin.

It is tempting enough when you run away from it, but it bites with venom when you stay and play with it.

Repent and run to God.

Many of us have done this and have great regret as we have suffered enormously. There are multiple examples of this sword in scripture. Learn from scripture. Learn from witnesses. Repent and run to God.

Love Bro. Scott
